Today Barboursville is busier and larger than ever. The population of the village has increased from 339 in 1814 to more than 3,500 residents. It is a major center of commerce again, due largely in part to the construction of West Virginia's largest shopping complex, the Huntington Mall, was annexed to the town in 1978. Yet, despite the rapid growth and modernization of Barboursville the village remains steadfastly proud of its heritage. It is this unique blend of historical and contemporary sights that make Barboursville a memorable stop for any visitor. Shoppers can explore the unique specialty shops in Barboursville's historic downtown. Craft shops, floral boutiques and quaint restaurants line this charming street of historic buildings. Or you can spend the day at the Huntington Mall, the largest shopping complex in West Virginia. Five anchor stores and over 150 local and national shops are all under one roof. The Huntington Mall is located off I-64, exit 20. Close by you'll find discount, specialty shops and much more at the new Merritts Creek Farm Plaza just off exit 18.

Recreation

Nestled in the hills are the 750 acres of Barboursville Community Park. This beautiful complex offers fishing, tennis, softball, baseball, basketball, soccer, horseshoes and many other reacreational activities. Lake William is a popular fishing hole among anglers and is regularly stocked with trout, bass, catfish and bluegill. Hiking trails wind up and around the scenic hills with breathtaking views of the park's landscape. Several picnic shelters are available for family gatherings, reunions and other events.

Golfers have much to enjoy in Barboursville. The Esquire Country Club, an 18 hole course and the Orchard Hills Golf Course, a 9 hole course are situated in peaceful, scenic settings.
