"The Best Little Village in the State" The Village of Barboursville is once again getting ready for the 4th Annual Memorial Walk for Cancer on April 26, 2008 at the Barboursville Community Park from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Barboursville The Village of Barboursville was founded in 1813 by an Act of the Virginia Assembly. As the Cabell County Seat, it became a busy town of commerce and politics. A port of call for boats running on the Guyandotte River, Barboursville flourished as an industrial center. Many visitors came to the area to establish deeds and records and appear before the county court. During the Civil War several skirmishes took place in and around the village. After the war, the County Seat was moved to nearby Huntington. As the railroads and highways passed by, Barboursville became a quiet, residential setting of historic homes and figures. Today Shoppers can explore the unique specialty shops in Barboursville's historic downtown. Craft shops, floral boutiques and quaint restaurants line this charming street of historic buildings. Or you can spend the day at the Huntington Mall, the largest shopping complex in West Virginia. Five anchor stores and over 150 local and national shops are all under one roof. The Huntington Mall is located off I-64, exit 20. Close by you'll find discount, specialty shops and much more at the new Merrits Creek Farm Plaza just off exit 18. |
